The Best of Small Town Education

The Wood River Rural School District's mission statement is “Making Education Count.” Everything that we do at WRRSD is based on making education count for each individual student and their family. The Board of Education is committed to providing the best curriculum, facilities and educational experience possible. We meet, and exceed, all the curricular requirements of AdvancEd and the Nebraska Department of Education. The staff consists of 52 teachers, 11.5 Paraeducators, 17 Support Staff, and three administrators serving about 580 students. All facilities are kept up to date, clean and safe. Accessibility to school buildings through controlled access. Safety and Security plans are reviewed annually and an active Crisis Team is in place.

All students have access to technology and teachers integrate technology into lessons when appropriate. Students in grades 7-12 are issued iPads, with PreK-6th grade students having access to iPads and computers throughout their instruction.

Wood River Preschool

Our preschool consistently receives excellent ratings from evaluations performed by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), Early Childhood Department. Student to Adult ratio is 1:6, which exceeds the requirements set by NDE. All learning is through exploration and play guided by an experienced staff.

Wood River Elementary

Wood River Elementary, located at 1003 Lilley Street, offers students 90 minute block of uninterrupted Reading instruction with large and small group activities. Through a highly developed Response to Intervention (RtI) Program, students receive consistent direct instruction in areas of student demonstrated Reading Skill weakness. This is supported by full time programs in Title I Reading & Math, English Language Learner (ELL), a Literacy Coach and a summer school program.

Math instruction is taught with the aid of Saxon Math. This Math program is based on a spiraling approach to instruction, consistently building and reviewing previously taught concepts.

All staff are designated as Highly Qualified in the area of Elementary Education. The Student to Adult (Teachers and Paraeducators) ratio is 1:10. A full time principal is on site to guide learning and insure the learning environment is optimal.

Extra classes that enrich our elementary students’ education are: Music, 5th Grade Band, Physical Education/Health, High Ability Learners (HAL), Elementary Choir, Library Skills, Special Education, Student Council, and After-School-Program.

Wood River Elementary maintains an active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and welcomes new members.

Wood River Middle School

After completion of the 5th Grade, students attend classes at the Middle & High School facility located at 13800 West Wood River Road. By design, 6th graders are taught in small groups with learning support built into every aspect.

Students in 7th and 8th grades are more mobile, passing between classes and are offered opportunities to participate in competitive sporting activities such as Cross Country, Golf, Volleyball, Football, Wrestling, Basketball and Track.

Middle School learning are supported and enriched through an after-school study hall, English Language Learner (ELL), Special Education, Industrial Technology, Music, Physical Education/Health everyday, Band, Robotics, Enrichment Activities, Field Trips, Student Council, High Ability Learners (HAL), classes in Technology, Character Education, Problem Solving, Reading Intervention classes, and an after-school program.

Wood River Rural High School is located at 13800 West Wood River Road, enrolling students in grades 9th-12th. Students are offered a wide array of experiences and curricular offerings taught by Highly Qualified educators

Course offerings at WRRHS exceed beyond the Nebraska Department of Education requirements for accreditation in offering classes such as: Personal Leadership, Creative Music, Math Fun, Physiology, Agriculture, ACT Prep, and Automotive. Students also have many options to take part in Health, Business, Welding, and Agriculture academies through Central Community College as well earning dual high school / college credit in English and Math. A wide variety of courses are offered via distance learning accommodating many different interests.

Learning is supported through Special Education, Saturday School, Directed Study Hall, Reading Intervention, and High Ability Learner (HAL) programs.

Extra Curricular activities bring pride to the Wood River Eagle students, staff, patrons and fans. Students choose to participate in Swing Choir, Band, Cross Country, Volleyball, Golf, Football, Wrestling, Basketball, Track, Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Team Mates, Honor Society, Letterman Club, Student Council, Advisory Group, Yearbook, Speech, 1 Act Play, All School Play, Spirit Team, Dance Team and through a partnership Future Farmers of America (FFA).
