Lauren Meier

4/7/24 at 2:30pm

Lauren Meier, Harpist, has been playing the harp for over 30 years. She has enjoyed performing with orchestras from several states, including Central Nebraska’s very own Hastings Symphony Orchestra.   Lauren has partnered with Grand Island Public Schools to form a harp program in both the high school and middle schools, and enjoys teaching private lessons to a group of students in her home. She encourages the growth of the harp platform in Nebraska communities by sharing her talents through community events, both public and private, and by teaching children and families about the unique aspects of the harp. Lauren finds it to truly be a gift to bring this unique & divine instrument to life!  Meier’s 45-minute concert is followed by a medley of Wood River High School instrumental musicians presenting their pieces in  preparation for District Music Contest. Let’s celebrate our local talent!

"My Broken Doll: The true childhood story of NE Holocaust survivor Bea Karp" begins as teenage Beatrice Karp learns she must leave post-war London to begin life anew in the United States.  As Bea packs for the journey, each object she places in her suitcase floods her with memories of her life during the war.  Audiences are instantly transported to the train rides, concentration camps and Nazi guards of Bea's memory.  Though tragic this is also a story of acceptance, love, and resilience.  The play illustrates to audiences the importance of standing up for what they believe is right.  "My Broken Doll" is based on the memoir of the same name written by Deborah Pappenheimer and adapted by Erni Nolan.  The play is produced in collaboration with Institute for Holocaust Education in Omaha, Nebraska.
