Establishing a medical clinic in Wood River was a long-term goal for the community. Wood River Economic Development Board and Mary Lanning Healthcare partnered to make the clinic a reality. In December 2015, Wood River Family Care opened its door to provide primary care services for all ages in Wood River and the surrounding communities.
The clinic is open 8 am – 5 pm (closed 12-1 for lunch) Monday through Friday. Same-day appointments are readily available. Most major insurance plans, along with Medicare and Medicaid are accepted. Uninsured patients may be eligible for discounts through Mary Lanning’s financial assistance. The clinic team includes medical receptionist Laurie Johnson, nurse Holli Bode, and nurse practitioner Monica Schmucker.
The following services are available:
• Acute care such as infections, allergies and minor injuries
• Management of chronic conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
• Health screenings including school and sports physicals, well-woman exams, and well child checkups
• Occupational health screenings including DOT physicals and pre-employment physicals
• Corporate health services for businesses
• Laboratory services
• Immunizations
• Referrals to specialists and care coordination as needed
“We are excited to be here and continue to expand our services to meet the needs of the community, often in partnership with others. For example, we are enrolled in the Vaccine for Children program in order to offer immunizations to children on Medicaid or without insurance. This can save a trip to Grand Island or Kearney for busy families. The clinic is a qualified provider with Nebraska’s Every Woman Matters program, which offers free screening exams and mammograms to low-income women. We had inquiries about managing implanted infusion ports, so we did additional training to offer this service. Filling prescriptions can be a challenge, and we are pleased to announce that we can send prescriptions to Svanda’s Pharmacy in Ravenna and they will deliver to Wood River starting June 2nd. If you would like to transfer your prescriptions, please call Svanda’s pharmacy and pharmacy staff will then contact your current pharmacy to make the transfer. The pharmacy number is 308-452-3672.”
