Wood River Vision 20/20 Business of the Month Spotlight

“Shear Power – Maddie (Heise) Brown!”

Shear Power’s New Stylist – Open House July 19th 4-7 pm!

Maddie (Heise) Brown is excited to be working back in her hometown at Shear Power, 123 W 9th St, Wood River. She and salon owner, Deb McTavish, have been talking about this since Maddie was a little girl. Maddie completed her cosmetology schooling at Xenon in January 2016, and started work right away. “I’m excited! Knowing so many people already has enabled me to develop my business faster, but I’m also eager to add new clients!” Maddie can assist anyone with haircuts, colors, perms, and styles as well as waxes. Hair is her favorite part of the job – she’s enjoying using the latest techniques she learned at Xenon to ensure everyone leaves looking their best.

Maddie and her husband Bryan gave the back half of the Shear Power salon a facelift in January with new paint and flooring. Bryan is a land surveyor with Olsson & Associates in Grand Island. Deb and husband Keith followed suit on the front of the shop, so everything looks fresh and clean, just like an expensive big-city salon would feel (without the big city price tag!). The duo recently renovated the former tanning bed room into the nail salon where Maddie does manicures, pedicures, and shellacs. One recent client stated “How awesome is it to be able to get a pedicure, massage chair and all, right here in Wood River? Maddie did a super job — I’d encourage everyone to give her a try!”

Did you know that the public can purchase hair products at Shear Power at prices considerably lower than the competition? You’ll find everything you need, including Biolage, Kenra and Aquage to name a few. You don’t need to be a client to purchase product at these great prices. But why not give Maddie a try for your next hair appointment?

Deb opened Shear Power in 1985 following her graduation from the College of Hair Design in Lincoln with training in both cosmetology and barbering. Anyone who has tried to get an appointment with Deb knows how busy she is, so she’s very excited to have Maddie on board! Now she doesn’t have to turn anyone away, and her clients’ needs can still be met even when she’s on vacation a couple times a year. McTavish stated “I’m glad to have someone joining me who is from Wood River, wants to stay in Wood River, and is excited to be providing this valuable service in our wonderful town. Maddie’s doing a great job! Really, it’s a good partnership – I can mentor her so she benefits from my experience, and she can show me the latest ideas and techniques…it’s the best of both worlds!”

Appointments can be made by calling the shop at 308-583-2928 or Maddie’s cell 308-380-9369. Or you can also book with Maddie online 24/7 at www.styleseat.com/MadisonBrown. The system will even send you an appointment reminder. The entire community is encouraged to stop into Shear Power during their open house Tuesday, July 19th from 4-7 p.m. to see the salon’s updates, enjoy snacks and enter drawings for products and services!
